The government will increase the e-invoice exemption threshold from RM500,000 to RM1million starting in 2026 to reduce the burden on small and medium enterprises (SMEs), according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The decision follows direct feedback from small business owners concerned about the costs of implementing the system. This adjustment aims to ensure the 2026 rollout is realistic and orderly, allowing

smaller companies more time to adapt. Furthermore, the Prime Minister announced an increase in the tax refund allocation from RM2billion to RM4billion in December 2025 to expedite outstanding payments for taxpayers, particularly small businesses.
