Malaysian SMEs Advised to Expand into Uzbekistan’s Lucrative Halal Market

Malaysia’s SMEs are encouraged to explore opportunities in Uzbekistan’s halal sector, which serves a population of over 30 million Muslims. Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan emphasized potential growth in areas like cosmetics, food, pharmaceuticals, and tourism. He highlighted Uzbekistan’s 400,000 SMEs and stressed the importance of adhering to global standards, including environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors, to succeed internationally. Ramanan also acknowledged that SMEs may not be fully prepared for the upcoming minimum wage policy but assured that support, including financial management training, is available to ease the transition.
