The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has imposed travel restrictions on 203,123 individuals and companies as of 30 November, due to unpaid taxes. This includes 175,656 individuals under Section 104 of the Income Tax Act 1967 and 12,205 individuals under Section 22 of the Real Property Gains Tax Act 1976. LHDN clarified that the restrictions are a last resort after multiple reminders. Taxpayers are advised to check their tax status via the MyTax portal or Immigration Department’s website before traveling. From 4 March 2024, cancellations can be requested online through the e-Travel Restriction service.
