The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has imposed travel restrictions on 182,666 individuals with tax arrears, collaborating with the Immigration Department. Before restrictions, LHDN issues warnings and notifications to taxpayers, urging settlement. Travelers facing restrictions at airports are referred to LHDN for resolution. Once an agreement is reached, either partial or full payment, release is immediate. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying stresses the purpose is not to hinder travel but ensure tax compliance and national revenue. Taxpayers are advised to check their tax status online and resolve any arrears before traveling.
