Phone scams in Manjung have caused losses of RM782,766.11 from 39 cases recorded between January and September this year. According to Manjung District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah, scammers typically impersonate enforcement officers such as police, Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) agents, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers, or courier representatives. He reminded the public that official dealings with government agencies are conducted in offices, not via phone calls. A recent case involved a 64-year-old pensioner who lost RM5,000 after a scammer posed as a police officer. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
