The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has denied issuing any statements or text messages using the name of its Chief Executive Officer, as circulated via WhatsApp. In a statement, LHDN emphasized that it takes the misuse of its CEO’s name seriously, and warned the public against spreading false information. It reminded that sharing fake news can result in legal action under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. LHDN urged the public to be cautious of suspicious WhatsApp texts, emails, or links and to report and block such contacts.
