Investment Scam Epidemic: Telegram, WhatsApp, Facebook Lead the Way

Telegram was identified as the top platform for investment scams, recording 1,346 cases with RM29.96 million in losses this year. Facebook followed with 948 cases (RM153.3 million), WhatsApp with 873 cases (RM165.5 million), and Instagram with 146 cases (RM24.3 million). Bukit Aman CCID Director, Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, said 16 platforms were used by syndicates, with total losses of RM483.9 million from 3,863 cases.Women were the most affected, with 2,124 victims losing RM315.3 million. He proposed holding platform operators accountable for uploaded content and urged the public to verify investments and ensure taxes are paid to the IRB.
