Impersonating e-commerce platform staff is the latest tactic by phone scam syndicates, causing RM3.92 million in losses within eight months this year. Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Director, Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, said 125 cases involved victims accused of selling unregistered products. From 2022 to August 2023, 8,802 phone scam cases were recorded, with RM434.2 million in losses. Common tactics include impersonating police (2,411 cases), IRB officers (1,419 cases), prize draw scams (1,038 cases), and bank officers (539 cases). Ramli emphasized government agencies do not inform of crimes via phone. Suspicious calls should be terminated immediately.
