The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested 15 civil servants for allegedly accepting over RM2 million in bribes from a syndicate involved in smuggling tobacco, cigarettes, and alcohol. This followed Operation Samba 2.0, conducted with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). The suspects, aged 30 to 50, were apprehended at MACC headquarters. Their alleged involvement spanned from 2017 to 2023. The syndicate used forwarding agents to bribe officials and operated through mule accounts. Additionally, they engaged in money laundering activities. The case is under investigation, with remand applications scheduled at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court.
